Why we sleep

First of all, this book well informs you how important yet how dangerous sleeping is. I love how the author doesn’t go all sciency stuff and includes an easier explanation unlike most of the other books about sleep. I am pleased that I didn’t quit reading at the start because the first few chapters are quite boring but as it gets to the central chapters it gets really great and fantastic. I believe that reading one page of this book can make your life longer by day.

Here is some fun fact that I have learned from this book

-You only have to sleep 8~7 hours

-Sleep too much can shorten your life

-There are mental disorder called FFI which you can’t sleep

-Humans spend 1 out of 3 of time in their life sleeping

-Your brain more active while you sleep

-Sleep deprivation can kill you faster than food deprivation

If I can describe this book with only one word it will be Lifesaver. This book can literally save your life with only 300 pages.

Awesome, mindblowing, surprising, beautiful and powerful that is what I can only say about this book.

I found this book to be a huge insight into an activity that has been an activity that has taken up possible a third of my life. The larger surprise was the multiplicity of functions of sleep, as articulated in this comprehensive exposition of "Why We Sleep". Listening to the audio version I lost my place on a few occasions. I would start my listening again at a much earlier place in the book but always found that reviewing the material reminded me of details so significant I was glad of the forced revision. The content also encouraged me to get a good night sleep afterwards so I have the best chance of shifting my new learning into long term memory!

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be compulsory for everyone.

Great book, potentially life changing for anyone who takes the information and advice at heart. Easy to read, backed up with science. No need to start at the beginning, you can just pick the chapter that you’re most interested in but it would be silly not to read the whole book. Anyone in healthcare and education should read this book and start spread the message of the importance of sleep. And if you can get your teenager to read this, even better. Highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've realised more any more how negliciting sleep has impeded me

Sleep is a restorative process your body must have. A bodybuilder or any other serious athlete would NEVER neglect recovery following an intense training session. Yet people neglect sleep on a on a regular basis.

This books shows makes you realize important sleep is. When at university and my first job I was serious under slept and it caused me a lot of problems. If I was able to do it again then 8 hours sleep would be compulsory, and even get 9 hours during busy periods. Its so important to the brain and body. Now I don't like to drink after 7pm, as getting quality of sleep and being fully functional the next day is more important.

The most interesting book I've read for a long while. I've recommended to so many people.

A good deep dive into the greater priority we should afford sleep. Sleep more perform better. More sleep is not a sign of weakness it is a sign of control.

Walker does a good job here. You spend 20 years asleep, learn to do it right.

I'm not finished with the book here, but I suspect when I am this book will belong in the same tier as books like Sapiens, Thinking Fast & Slow, How to Win Friends... and Make it Stick.

This book warrants an analytical reading. Goodluck.

A book that will educate you on the importance of sleep and do everything in its power to make sure you prioritise it. Would give 5 star if the author didn't exaggerate/misrepresent scientific data at times – though that can somewhat be justified when you consider the significance of the looming sleep loss epidemic.

I have the audible version and I actually like the guys voice. He says that we may nod off during his reading as his voice is a bit soft. Once you get used to it, and focus on the content it is a great book. I like the way he backs up his points with studies and provides examples. He outlines the importance of sleep and what happens when we don't get enough of the right quality of it. Well worth the read or listen
