Tested it after charging, and other people were spot on. It's great for sucking up very, very dry leaves that are small. If you have many oak leaves (there are no other kind of Oak leaves..) honestly, forget, it jammed 3 times in about 10 minutes. If you do one oak leaf at a time it isn't so bad, but there are thousands. Maple leaves are okay they shread nicely. It also blows, but seems weaker than the dedicated blower I already bought. I need it to suck leaves from hard to rake places so won't be returning it. If I was 30 years younger I'd likely return this. Doesn't save much work as I'll still have to manually rake the Oak leaves. It is great though at sucking up all the other debris on the lawn, small leaves, small twigs, etc. Could use a bigger bag, at least it shreds so nicely that you can use it instantly for mulch. If all you have is OAKs or similar hardwoods with large tough leaves... buy a rake.
If you need a leaf vac don’t buy this. The blower is fine and the cordless battery is fine ,but sucking up leafs is useless. The hole into where the blade is is too small and constantly gets clogged.. even if you let leafs dry. It can only take in a few leafs at a time, don’t take anymore than that it will clog. Returning it for a works yard 3in1. It’s plug in more power. And it has a metal blade now the B and D has a small PLASTIC blade. Don’t buy!
While this does a pretty good job, after only being used about 20 times the zipper broke on the bag. Would have been great to at least use it for more than one season. Can anyone tell me how to get it replaced?
This is the worst thing I’ve ever bought. Weak as heck! Don’t get it! Stopped sucking up a basic leaf after only a few uses..I’m so bummed. Stick with electric or gas people! Black & Decker shame on you!
After having this for a season I have to say it's just not B&D quality.
The battery is not an issue. It lasts and charges quickly so no issue with that. The problem is that it's just so weak, no power. It'll barely blow grass from the driveway. Come fall, don't even think about moving a leaf. Even with the power at full (6 for this model?) it just can't muster the power to move even the smallest job.
In addition the air intake will clog all of the time. If you are right handed the air intake is on the left side of the unit so it pulls in your clothing as you carry it. So, you have to hold it at least 6-8 inches away from you body. Very uncomfortable.
So if you need this to do any blowing or even moderate sweeping, look elsewhere. Hope this review was helpful.
First problem I had was trying to assemble the tubes. the blower tube, consisting of two pieces, was not difficult to assemble but it required pounding the two pieces together. The vacuum tube consists of three peces and each piece must be pounded into the next piece. but unlike the blower tube, the top is curved and the bottom segment is angled, making pounding them in very difficult. Never was successful in pounding the bottom section all the way in. As a result, there is a gap between the bottom segment and the middle section which results in a loss of some of the vacuum power so the vacuum isn't as powerful and is harder to use. Worse yet, once the parts of both the tubes are assembled, it is impossible to separate them. tte tubes must have been designed b a retard because no competent product engineer would have made the connections this way. It would have been much easier and simpler just to make the tube segments screw together.
Whie the apparatus is lighter than a gas powered blower, it still has weight. I wish it had a shoulder strap because it is tiring to do very much with the apparatus.
