How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Miss Cherry
1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, awful film

I don't even know where to begin to describe how utterly bad and bizarre this film is. First off, it's based on ludicrous and false stereotypes of what boarding school life is like. Second, a 13 year old would never be placed in the same dormitory as two 16 year olds. It's simply a convenient plot device for the filmmakers. Just. Would. Not. Happen. In. Real. Life. Third, knowingly engaging in sexual activity in front of a minor is exposure of a minor to pornography which is a form of sexual abuse. Amazed the filmmakers never considered this but hey just a small note in this atrocious film. Fourth, in any reasonable institution, if any student/member started showing such OBVIOUS signs of psychiatric disorder someone would have contacted a medical professional/counsellor before the said student/member committed suicide. And finally, okay, I get it, losing the person you love is a heartbreaking, horrible experience that stays with you for the rest of your life. However, the VAST majority of people do not have the extreme reaction that Pauline has. Pauline's madness and grief is so fabricated and hyperbolic it is frankly nauseating and does nothing to depict or represent the sense of rejection and homophobia young LGBT people continue to suffer, if anything undermines it. I could go on at length at how utterly bad and ludicrous this film is but frankly I've already wasted enough of my life on it.

Da dieser Film gute Bewertungen hat, hab ich ihn bestellt.
Mir hat er jedoch gar nicht zugesagt. War bis jetzt der schlechteste Lesbenfilm, den ich je gesehen habe.
Fans ihn sehr kindlich.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously cringe-worthy

I don't understand why the only reviews on here are quite so gushingly hyperbolic: I bought this film as a result and was seriously disappointed. Perabo acts far below her ability (she is unrecognisable from 'Imagine Me & You') in this cliche-ridden attempt at teen lesbian angst. If you're going to use the repressive atmosphere of a girls boarding school, you have to do something more interesting than just chuck in some parent issues, because the genre is loaded with good stuff already. I suppose that sums up what I think of this film: it's lazy and predictable, with a side-serving of wincingly awful. And there are far more eloquent and lengthy dissections on the net than mine: I recommend a quick google before you believe the reviews written on Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lahmer Teenie-Lesben Film

Ihrer ersten Filme drehen.

1.0 out of 5 stars VERY VERY BAD
Reviewed in the United States on 5 June 2005

I felt that I had to write this review to warn others about just how bad this movie is. After reading the other reviews about how great this movie is, I gave it a shot but I was SORRILY disappointed. I ended up fast-forwarding through most of the film to see when it was going to get better, but it didn't-it just got worse and worse. It's impossible to have any kind of emotional grasp on the characters or the film since the movie primarily consists of empty cliches and tired lines and acting. The emotions that the actors do try to project come across as phony and unrealistic and take place in an incredibly bad story line. Even the brief love scenes were hollow and not worth a watch. All-in-all, the movie was totally boring, incapable of being interesting, involving, or entertaining in any way. I threw my copy in the garbage-PLEASE rent before you buy or you will be wasting your money. If your looking for a heart-warming tale, I recommend "The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love." I also recommend "Tipping the Velvet" which is brilliant and entertaining.

*** WARNING: PLOT SPOILER ***

Whether you're looking for a serious lesbian love story like "Better than Chocolate" or "Bound", a heart-rending coming-of-age story like "L'effrontee'" or "Girls Can't Swim", or you're just hoping for a little vouyeristic titilation ("9 Songs" still haunts my dreams), you will be sorely disappointed by this film, as it can make no pretensions to being any of these things, in spite of it being chock-full of a host of other pretensions.

One girl quotes Shakespeare to no apparent purpose, the other is consumed with anxiety about how others will view her sexuality. The conflict is tepid and the characters are wooden and two-dimensional. Their individual responses to their situation are incredible and unconvincing.

This movie is clumsy, predictable, grossly moralistic and has an infuriatingly insipid ending in which one of the main characters disavows her sexuality and the other offs herslf. Pile that on top of the fact that, while they're both quite beautiful, neither of the lead actresses has any bussiness playing a teenager in a role that calls for nudity, as they're both physically too well-developed to be convincing.
