Tries to be too many things and succedes at none despite being based on a pretty good story. As a who done-it the clues are too poorly presented to be interesting. The plot is too complicated to keep track of and seemingly intentionally so as it is implausible even for fiction. As a super hero film Mara's character and her super powers are not that interesting. As a character study (Mara's character) is maybe appealing to hard feminists but is too extreme otherwise. Nothing much for Craig's character except that he is an honest reporter which is novel. There are 3 torture scenes and one rape scene, all very graphic and overly long failing shock value as a result. The investigation scenes by Mara and Craig are plainly too long in total, boring and uninformative as they are presented too quickly individually to be comprehensible. Cinematically the movie is persistently dark and glum, resolution seems not very good for BluRay but maybe that is intentional. All in all the movie is quite pretentious and the special features intolerably so.
The original version is superior to the remake. There is more detail and grit in the original version. The remake felt as if it was overly censored. But if you enjoyed this remake, then you should watch the original 3 movies. Although I prefer the original movies, this one was better than most films produced in Hollywood. I would recommend that if the purchase price is $5 dollars or less, then you should consider buying it. Otherwise, save your money to buy the originals.
