5.0 out of 5 starsFocus on important stuff

I've been looking at 'smart' watches for a while...I am invested in the Google ecosystem but in my opinion the Wear OS options try to be all things to all people and end up over promising and not delivering. So I have been seeking a hybrid option that does the basics really well and is largely platform neutral (i.e. Google vs Apple vs Microsoft vs Samsung).

What are the basics? It shows the time, looks nice, provides core health measurements and the app is elegant and simple. How? I am an average guy - I want to be healthier - but I will not be performing a triathlon anytime soon... So.....I do not need a device designed by NASA; I need a device that is robust, reliable and simple to use. It needs to present info to me so I can make my own decisions and not drown me with useless data.

The battery life is excellent.

My experience has been so good I purchased a Withings Body + Scale too.

If the next generation somehow included Google Wallet & Google Play I'd buy Withings gear for a long time into the future. Great product - recommended.

I wanted to upgrade from a Garmin Vivosmart 4 HR, and made a huge mistake by getting this Steel HR Sport. I did so after reading some reviews. I found the following problems.
The length of stride cannot be adjusted. It is set at 0.8 metre (my walking stride is 0.75 metre), so all distances are incorrect. Also, there is no difference in stride between running and walking.
The calories used is hoplessly inaccurate. I consume 2,200 - 2,600 per day, depending upon my exercise routine. The Steel never showed more than 1,700. It never recorded calories burned at gym on the cross-trainer or the bike, which usually were 300+.
Unlike the Garmin, it does not recognise when you are on a cross-trainer, or stepper machine, or rowing machine. So this exercise is never shown or recognised on the app at all. The only thing shown is the steps walking to and from the gym.
The only use for this watch, in my opinion, is to count steps and monitor your sleep. Even the max heart rate recorded is inaccurate. I have exchanged several emails with Withers support (no local phone presence) and their only comment was that they would suggest my problems as a software upgrade in due course. I have had the watch for 5 days and hope that Amazon will take it back.

The Calories burnt don't use the Heart Rate. This is so ridiculous and lazy. I came from an old polar watch and chest strap, and the fact they can't use the HR in the calc makes this watch useless. I replaced with a polar optical arm band which is excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Es tut mir so leid

1.0 out of 5 stars A huge disappointment
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 January 2019

This is the fourth Withings/Nokia watch I have bought. Rather than improving as new models come out it seems to be regressing as it possibly tries to do too much.

I have contacted Withings Customer Support with my issues but they don't really seem interested.

Positives
1) looks nice. It however seems more brown that black much of the time
2) Analogue and good at keeping time.
3) Heart rate tracking. Good record during workouts.

Issues
1) The alarm. The vibration in this watch is much less than in any of the previous models I have had. It is so weak that it is almost useless as an alarm to wake up. Withings said recharge the watch!
2) Sleep tracking is totally hit and miss. There are nights when I seemingly don't go to sleep before the wee small hours having gone to be at 22.00 the previous night. Useless.
3) Display. The ability to have messages displayed on the screen in great providing you don't try to do it anywhere in sunlight. I couldn't see any of the messages on the beach in Dubai and I was unable to see anything on the display when I tried to use it to track my daily walks along the beach.
4) Calorie counting. Seems low based on other equipment used to track this and based on what I have been told I burn just being alive.

I am close to returning this product, the only thing preventing it would mean I have no watch.

1.0 out of 5 stars not a very smart, smart watch - stay away from
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 June 2020

This watch has failed from day one to record activities correctly. As you can see in the first image it has a habit of recording the same workout multiple times. (This would be fine if it was the only issue). It fails on a regular basis to record Heart Rate data, fine when you are standing still however whenever you run or exercise it loses it almost every day. I have the latest firmware on the watch and the latest version of the App. GPS on the App is useless, only ever records part of my runs if it works at all. I first thought it must be MY phone however running other apps like Strava alongside it and it never fails to record the GPS data. I have reached out to customer services but they are pretty much non-existent. they have requested someone else wears my watch (in case i don't have a heartbeat!) even after doing this and sending them screen shots of the issue they have just stopped replying.

If you want to buy a watch that tells the time this will work beyond that it's completely useless.

The watch and everything else is fine. The glass used for the face however is incredibly weak. Small scratches soon develope into large cracks, with the glass ultimately falling out.
Very poor design, no repair by Withings just a discount on buying another.
It's a sports watch and it should be robust enough, but sadly it ain't.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good watch while it worked but died within 2 months of purchase. Client service is very bad
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 September 2019

Had Activite Pop for 2 years and it was a good but simplistic watch. Decided to upgrade and bought the Sport HR watch in July. While it was working it was a good watch. Unfortunately watch died on Sep 2 - with battery at 72% watch just stopped and was not responsive to anything. Upon some research on Withings forums it turned out it is a common problem - Withings even have a procedure on what to do when it happens and advice to call Customer Support if it did not helped. Call the support the next day and even though it is a common problem went into the loop of "did you tried turning it off and on again" which goes everytime they put a new stuff on the issue. After a while they said they need to send a new charger to make sure. After a week they inform me the charger is out of stock and will come in 4-6 weeks. After new complaint - a new representative with the exact same script. Very bad service, very bad product which died after 2 month. Do not buy.

And yeah - battery life is half of what is advertised.

I was very excited about the product was a bit disappointing:
- Design color contrast, gets very hard to see the time when the light is not high.
- The hour pointer gets stuck, showing wrong hour, have to calibrate over and over again.
-+ price
- the stepp progress display is not very useful, could be possible to show other metrics.
+ Looks good, but hard to see the time in low lightdue to dark colours.
