5.0 out of 5 starsThe single most useful book I've ever read.
Reviewed in Australia on 17 December 2018
That's a big statement, I know, but David Goggins has such a unique, refreshing, and honest way of looking at things that unless you're intellectually and emotionally comatose (or would like to be), you can't help but grow as you read. After decades of conscious self-discovery I thought I knew myself well. Goggins showed me how I only knew the areas I wanted to know, and how the unexamined areas had been mud wrestling me behind the scenes for years. I'm going to come right out and say the one thing I never expected to say in a review: If in your life you're only going to read one book that will mess you up and set you right, you can't get better than this one.

1.0 out of 5 starsLooks like a fake copy
Reviewed in Australia on 14 April 2021
The quality of the print is terrible. It looks like a fake copy. I have compared my copy to the ones at the stores and its different. The ones at the store have much better printing and better quality paper. Avoid this version as it ruins the experience of this book.

Look there’s no doubt he’s lived a very tough life & I commend him for that. However, the message or take away is only useful for exercise junkies.

A somewhat sad story of a hurt child seeking meaning in physical and mental fortitude. Not for me but might connect with some readers

Started off good but became too repetitive. I didn't really learn anything from it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Started well but it drops off very quickly.

Starts off well. The background story of his childhood is interesting. After that it's one long monotone trawl through how hard he works physically, usually because he seems to prepare for anything he does so poorly. I would say its full of pseudo science but the activities to 'help you' become more infrequent and certainly less helpful. Worst of all is that it's boring, very very boring.

As an avid gym user and lover of non fiction and auto biographies I thought this book would be a perfect combination of the two.

Whilst it is very inspirational and it is interesting to hear David’s account of his younger life, as the book went on it turned less and less believable until it eventually it turns into a compete farce and unreadable.

The feats he speaks of are not humanly possible, and his ego overtakes the book as the it goes further and further. I stopped reading 3/4 of the way through.

Interesting read but not inspirational.

What a bad run of books im having. I've never given up halfway through reading a book but this is 2 in a row ! (And I read alot of books). This book started off and I was gripped from the first page, amazing start, but once he lost his weight and got into seals training just ended up being annoying. Not a team player and to me came across cocky. I couldn't be bothered continuing to spend my time finishing the book off. I spoke to a friend of mine and mentioned this book and he had done the same ! Maybe the book recovers in the second half but I'll never know.

2.0 out of 5 stars Goggins; Angry Man

I guess books by people such as Goggins are meant to be inspiring. His ability to overcome barriers and push himself beyond the imaginable is beyond question. Can I relate? At the start he suggests his life experiences have been harsher than anyone else’s could possibly have been. How would he know this. Pain suffering and hardship are personal experiences. If you want to be harangued into trying to improve yourself, and made to feel you have no right to consider yourself unfortunate in any way, follow Mr Goggins. I just felt triggered and belittled.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT A MOTIVATIONAL READ
Reviewed in Italy on 15 March 2021

This book is an autobiography, VERY self celebratory, and not a motivational book in any way. The real uplifting content is less than a page per chapter, the rest is "look at me, I broke my legs and I still kept running" or "I kept doing push ups until I vomited blood and I still kept going" (both of these are actual events narrated in the book). The entire thing just made me think how insane this guy is, and not in a good way. There is so much of his personal life I didn't care at all, 4 chapters only about military life. I learned very little from reading this book and it left me feeling weak instead of motivated

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok content. Didn’t like the constant interruptions

Ok content but I didn’t like the random chats between the author and narrator in between chapters. Breaks up the flow.

You may enjoy the “behind the scenes” kind of feel of the interjections
