Great pictures of the days gone by

By looking at the backcover of this book you can see that the author Marc Canter is definitely a Guns n' Roses
inside man. There is a lot of great never before seen pictures of the band just moments before their big break.

You find a lot of poor, rip-off books about Guns N' Roses but this one is not one of those. Do yourself a favor and
order yours today. No GN'R fan should let this one pass.

Really cool book worth buying in my opinion. Many pictures and a lot of detail of what was going on while the formation of Guns was taking place. Worth buying as a collectible item, I am sure I will re-read it again at some point, its quite pleasant and not tiring at all. :)

Was Marc Canter, ein enger Freund der Band und insbesondere von Saul "Slash" Hudson, mit Reckless Road geschafft und geschaffen hat, verschlägt einem wirklich die Sprache - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes, so dass ich erst gar keine Rezension schreiben wollte, weil man von den Tonnen an Material, das Canter vorlegt, förmlich erschlagen wird und dem Buch mit einer Rezension nicht mal annähernd gerecht werden kann. Dennoch will ich, eben weil ich so begeistert davon bin, ein paar Worte darüber verlieren und hoffe, diese wird nicht die einzige Rezension bleiben.

Canters Reckless Road: Guns N' Roses and the Making of Appetite for Destruction ist - und darüber kann man nicht diskutieren - das ultimative Buch (und nicht nur das, doch dazu später mehr) über eine der größten Rock ('n' Roll)-Bands aller Zeiten! Canter dokumentiert akribisch die Geschichte von Guns N' Roses vom ersten Tage an bis hin zu AfD. Er tut dies mit unzähligen fantastischen Fotos (beginnend mit Slashs Schulzeit und seinen ersten Bands!), Texten, Flyern, Eintrittskarten, Setlists, Zeitungsausschnitten und - Audio- und Videoaufnahmen! Canter kann das, und zwar als einziger Mensch auf Erden, denn er hat die Band von ihrem ersten Gig am 06. 06. 85 im legendären Troubadour an begleitet und Gig für Gig - 50 an der Zahl - Fotos geschossen, Notizen gemacht, Flyer, Eintrittskarten u. dgl. gesammelt und sowohl Audio- als auch Videoaufnahmen gemacht - bis hin zur Geburt von einem der größten Rock ('n' Roll)-Alben aller Zeiten im Jahre 1987: Appetite for Destruction!

Ist das Buch schon unglaublich und benötigt man allein für seine Durchsicht mehrere Tage, so sind die ebenfalls unzähligen Audio- und Videoaufnahmen, die über enhancedbooks.com zugänglich sind (nachdem man sich dort registriert und mit einem Code, den man dem Buch entnimmt, Reckless Road freigeschaltet hat (was problemlos gelingt)), das Tüpfelchen auf dem i, für manche sicher sogar die Krönung des Ganzen! Welcher Fan hat nicht schon immer mal in den ERSTEN Gig der Gunners reinhören wollen oder in die ERSTE Live-Performance von Welcome to the Jungle?! Beides und noch viel, viel mehr ist nun möglich, denn neben etlichen Audio- und Video-Interviews, bzw. Statements von den verschiedensten Personen gibts auch massig solche unfassbaren Aufnahmen zu bestaunen!

Einzige Wermutstropfen: Zum einen ist das Buch bislang nur in Englisch erhältlich (eine deutsche Übersetzung gibts laut Canter voraussichtlich 2009) und zum andern ist es bei sehr hochwertiger Qualität leider nur sparsam produziert, d. h., der Umschlag ist lediglich mit ein paar Tüpfelchen Klebe befestigt und löst sich recht schnell ab (was allerdings durchaus zu verkraften und bei Interesse auch wieder zu reparieren ist).
