How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

What to say about a book that espouses the need to put away our likes and dislikes? I bought this after seeing it listed on the reading list of Treeleaf Zendo (thank me later). I didn’t buy it before that. Why not? Because I thought it would be the usual trite advice with pretty pictures. But it isn’t. It has lots of things that I recognise as being truly a part of zen. It has a couple of things that I don’t know what to make of (we’re all in Buddha’s palm? Trust in yourself?). That isn’t to say that I disagree with them, only that they have left me stumped.

But I read this book and I enjoyed every page of it. It really is no more than a finger pointing at a path to a higher place from where you can see the moon. Does the level from where you see the moon make a difference?

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Written but.....

Love this Zen book it's really helped relax me during this time, the only thing I don't really like is the constant reference to office or work. I bought it for my daughter and myself and would have liked it to give advice about simple living with a lot less emphasis on office or work life. My daughter couldn't relate and now that I'm working from home it's not relevant to me or ppl who don't work in the office or do a 9-5. Arrived in good time

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely illustrations

This was reasonably priced and was bought for the colourful, airy illustrations only; the text is like in most books of this type - do this, do that and everything will be fine - but as we didn't care about the text, it didn't matter. If you like self-help stuff, you'll probably also enjoy the text.

4.0 out of 5 stars I recommend

At the start I thought it didn't go into much detail about 'how' to actually carry out these tips and it wasn't nothing I hadn't read before, but I really began to enjoy it as it went on - easy to read, interesting insights and concepts about Japanese zen Buddhism and useful tips to implementing into my own life. It gave me a different perspective. I loved the illustrations as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book to dip in and out of

This book is short, sweet yet impactful.

I read it on kindle and found myself highlighting quite a few passages and quotes that I found thought-provoking.

It's probably better to have the hard copy version of this, as it is a good book to dip in to regularly for further inspiration.

Recommended.

Interesting little activities to do each day , most of which are practical a few are not . I would have given this five stars but there isn’t much of an explanation of mindfulness in this book .

A lovely book for β€œthought for the day” type reading. I would not read this cover to cover in a few sittings, but I often open it on random pages and absorb the information.

Simple way of explaining zen philosophy. After reading this what I understood is most of the philosophies teach same thing only the words may be different. Bit lagging in examples or stories. This help reader to understand easily
