4.0 out of 5 starsNot too shabby

But Jack has evolved. I like the earlier books better, where he occasionally used the 110th & other resources- and was a lot more self sufficient. The story was better than some of the more recent books, but it could have been any hero - bring back the original Jack Reacher! Some while speculation earlier in the book and then later more options were taken into account. Abby seemed to have a lot of input from someone with her background. But again the story Was easy to follow and the book easy to pick up to keep reading.

1.0 out of 5 starsThis is not jack reacher
Reviewed in Australia on 15 January 2021
Jack is a brawler, yes. But he's always used his brain as well. But now, according to this book, he's nothing but a remorseless killer, mowing down anyone who comes up against him.
The author could have had fun with this, Jack could have played off the two opposing factions. against one another with intention - and no one necessarily had to die. Problem was the author turned jack in to a battering ram of death, and even his wish to help the old couple come across as psychotic rather than defending the rights of the 'little guy'

also the waitress sleeping with Jack - her reasonings? this came off as a male author's fantasy rather than what would happen in real life.

3.0 out of 5 stars And another Jack Reacher novel bites the dust!

I am not sure what it is. The character is ilogical, the plot is unbelievable, the style is repetitive, the writing style is bizarre - and yet I have read every Jack Reacher novel. A certain “sameness” to every story, but in a different location, and with different characters. Jack is like a super hero drifting around America, getting involved in people’s lives and sorting out their problems - then just disappearing to the next adventure. Unbelievable - but still a lot of fun to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars I love Jack Reacher. I love Lee Child. But this book is lacking that something that normally is present when you put these two guys together.

But this time the magic is missing. It is just a massacre of people with the ending so predictable.
Sorry Lee, not your best. Not nearly anywhere near it.
I will wait for your next one with bated breath. AND fingers crossed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Started so well...

Started as a great Reacher story - a great set, even a little humour. The competing gangs of Ukrainians and Albanians ruling the city - and absence of police - is a brilliant set up. As is Reacher helping the little old man - which turns into something much bigger than anyone expected. But the last quarter of the book was just a bloodbath of Tarantesque proportions. I understand that Jack Reacher is a psychopath who's quite willing to kill twenty-plus people in one story but that he then ropes in a random barmaid, her two muso friends and one of their ex-military buddies to kill another twenty-plus is just silly. I felt there could have been a much better ending. But if you like lots of gunfire, there's plenty here.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very dark and different Jack Reacher
Reviewed in Australia on 9 January 2020

Did not recognise this jack reacher compared to other books -very dark and violent.
in previous books Jack drifted around as a gallant knight errant , doing good deeds and avoiding mindless violence and killings .This is a very different jack reacher in Blue Moon -has an almost arrogant disdain , if not attraction, to violence and wrecking havoc on the baddies, with multiple bodies filling the pages .The character development is also a bit weak and lacks depth and at times, credibility : just recruits a willing new girlfriend to be an accomplice in his killing spree as well as some former army mates who willingly go for the ride and assist in his vigilante killing spree for some old couple being fleeced by merciless loan sharks .Seems like the book has not been well thought out or characters properly developed , but still very engaging and readable .As a jack reacher fan, still enjoyed reading it , but was a little bit disappointed in the direction Lee Childs was taking the Jack Reacher character

3.0 out of 5 stars Formula

Not Lee Child's best by a long way. Entirely formulaic effort with the expected implausible plot, incompetent bad guys and this time the Russians are involved - please! As also expected there is an absence of use of adverbs. What is the problem with modifying verbs with adverbs? Why use adjectives almost exclusively? What are Child's editors doing if not providing some oversight of good English grammar. I will not read this one again as I have with most of Child's earlier novels which were brilliant.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jack now resorting to excessive violence
Reviewed in Australia on 26 December 2019

I have read most of the Jack Reacher books and have enjoyed them and looked forward to the next one. However in Blue Moon Jack seems to take pleasure in killing everyone connected with the crime gangs as though they are automatically his enemy, even when there is minimal or no threat to himself, I even beheading one for gruesome effect. The book presents him as no better than a murderous thug at times and I am surprised his friends seem to be happy to go along with his violent rampage. This is not the Jack Reacher I have come to enjoy over the years.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reacher Creature

This is my first disappointing review of a Jack Reacher novel. A good read but lacking the credibility of previous novels. My main point of conjecture is it was continually mentioned that the criminals would not shoot as the wouldn’t want to draw attention from law enforcement and yet Reacher shot more crimes in this novel and the law never turned up once.
Although I shall continue to read Lee Child novels, this one was definitely not up to par

3.0 out of 5 stars Bloodier than usual

Losing the plot a bit.

Whilst none of the Jack Reacher novels are Mills and Boon stories, this book loses the plot and descends into a Tarentino-esque farce. Quite mindless, pointless killing of all and sundry.
An easy way out of tricky situations. Just kill them.
Lazy writing and plotting.
A sadly disappointing overkill. Pun intended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

Far to violent not the usual well thoughtful novel we’ve come to I expect from Lee. Normally I binge read the latest novel. This one I kept putting it down, losing interest in a thin and overtly violent plot. Far to much reliance on firearms and not the Reacher we are used to.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not your normal Reacher

From a man who hated guns to someone ready to kill many, Jack Reacher has changed. The book is good but for someone who has read every book, the style has changed. Is this book written by Lee Childs? It's a good book but Reacher has become a different man. Not what you expect and even respect.
