When I ordered this hair care set, the ingredients of each was not listed on this product page (they still aren't) but I accepted the claim that the products are silicone-free. Not so. While the shampoo doesn't contain it -- and I LOVE the shampoo -- both the conditioner and styling cream list dimethicone, a silicone. Because I'm sensitive to silicones, I used those two only once, just to see how well they work.
First, the shampoo, because I like it so much: a dime-size amount is enough to thoroughly wash my thick, below-the-chin length hair. It creates a thick lather than feels luxurious and that leaves my hair clean and manageable, even without using conditioner afterward.
Next: the conditioner and leave-in styling cream. Both work extremely well, and I could see why they might be worth the price tag for the set. Unfortunately, with dimethicone listed as an ingredient in each, I am not going to use them. The inclusion of dimethicone infuriates me because I religiously avoid it to prevent dermatitis.
The shampoo is a five-star product, and the others would be, too, for those who don't care about silicones. I give it two stars mostly because the product page claims that it is silicone-free.
Okay. I'm impressed. And believe me, I don't impress easily when it comes to hair products. I have SUPER baby fine thinner hair that is sensitive to products; meaning, my hair will become cranky if I don't use product it likes and lie limp and lifeless as if to say 'seriously? this stuff depresses me,' or will dull my highlights, or make my hair oily, or whatever else product does to baby fine hair, and if you have super baby fine hair, you know the frustrating pain of it all!
I used the shampoo first, working it gently in with my shampoo brush. Smelled wonderful! A slight almost spice scent mixed with something soft--whatever that scent is, I loved it. Rinsed thoroughly and I next applied the conditioner.
The conditioner took out the tangles, as my new blond highlights made my hair more 'rough,' but as well, the conditioner felt as if it were 'coating' my hair - I don't know how else to describe it - but I felt as if there was something still 'on' my hair, even after rinsing thoroughly. I wasn't sure how that would work but I was hopeful. It smelled the same as the shampoo-mmmmmm!
I was able to wet-brush my towel-dried hair very easily, so that was great! Because super baby fine hair TANGLES! Oh, does it tangle, and especially if it's been lightened.
I then applied the cashmere cream. Scent is great as above. I worked this in from roots to ends, just to see how it would do at the root too, thinking, 'my hair will be cranky and go limp and lifeless and oily...' but when I finished brush-blow-drying my hair, WOW!
My hair looked (and still looks the next day) beautiful! My baby fine cranky hair is HAPPY! Happy shiny hair! And, even better, my highlights look brighter and better--more like they looked when I first came out of the salon. (The next time I used it, I put in some beachy waves and my hair had shine and volume and body-awesome!)
You know how that can go; you get highlights and walk out of the salon feeling like a million bucks then a few days or week later your highlights look duller, even when you've been careful? Well, this system, whether it's all three, or even just the cashmere cream, made my hair shiny, soft, and it brightened my highlights--it toned the sort of 'brass' that was showing But so far it didn't make my highlights darker or dull as some purple products will do--the cashmere creme has a slight lavender look. And, no limp oily look. I had some volume.
I guess I'm being effusive, but in the quest for finding products that work for my baby fine thinner highlighted hair, this one is a winner for me. I sure hope it continues to work - I won't use it every shampoo however but likely a couple times a week.
Love! *skips off happily with hair bouncing just a little*
I ordered this set out of curiosity, as I have weird hair. I have a lot of hair, but it's super fine. My hair is wavy on the ends, prone to frizziness towards the roots. I get my hair highlighted and if I try to grow my hair past my shoulders the hair will split and break, even with frequent trims. I did not win the hair lottery at all. I live in a humid climate, summers are brutal, sweating happens all day, and looking good can be a challenge with the climate, much less having naturally weird hair. Here's how my experience went with these products:
Shampoo- smells to me like baby lotion. That's not a bad thing! I like the smell of baby lotion. Lathered nicely, then rinsed and oh oh... hair felt super dry. Clean, but dry.
Conditioner- same smell as shampoo, which again, I like, as it's a comforting smell. Conditioner went on and my hair just soaked it up, got instantly moisturized, and rinsed out nicely but didn't take the moisture with it down the drain.
I towel dried my hair and was able to brush with no tangling, no snagging, no issues.
Once dry, hair was shiny and super soft. Zero fly aways, no frizz. My hair is usually pretty wavy in the summer but I noticed it was more straight than wavy after using these products.
Once my hair was dry, I used the after conditioning treatment. You can use it on wet or dry hair. It's purple out of the bottle, smells similar to the shampoo and conditioner. I used very little, as I feared it would be greasy. No, wasn't greasy. Didn't weigh down my hair. I really didn't need the after conditioner, as the conditioner is so moisturizing, so I was glad it didn't weigh down my hair.
Overall, my only concern being the shampoo was drying, but the conditioner took care of that. I am not taking away any stars, as the end result is lovely. I can't stop touching my hair. I can't believe how soft it is! This is definitely on the spendy side, but worth it if you get the promised results and I did. Five stars for that reason!
