How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Loved loved loved this film. We saw it at the cinema and it was great on the large screen. Purchased the film to have for those times when you need to watch a “feel good” movie..

I thoroughly enjoyed this. The cinematography was great. I just found it a bit slow in places, but that didn't overshadow the themes and acting. Overall, great.

Fantastically beautiful cinematography suits a story of strong faith and warm humanity. An experience more than a movie.

Long and drawn out. The trailer was great and looked interesting but it was nothing like the trailer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work for UK

Waited a good few weeks for this to arrive. I was particularly excited to watch it. When I took it out of the package the first thing I noticed is that the box was really flimsy, like what you'd expect if you bought a copy from a car-boot-sale. Worst of all though, the DVD didn't work when putting into a DVD player. I tried multiple devices but had the same issue. The issue being that it was not the correct format for the UK, I was presented with 'incorrect region code'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do Yourself Good Don't Listen to Others.

Here’s a movie with grace and beauty for the land-scape that “Terrence Malick” envision for us to see.
If you haven’t lived and worked an extraordinary life of peace and tranquility you’ll never get this movie.
this is Franz and Fani ideal life that they want for them and the kids they have together.
now after travelling on this journey with them to see how they work to get food on the table for the family
in the fields of the land. in come the Nazis who wants Franz to fight for them in World War 11.
so even though the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with death for treason. still would not pledge allegiance
to the Fuhrer. remember now this is 1939 the year of “Adolf Hitler” and progress to 1943.
and it shows you how your neighbors can turn on you in a heartbeat. they spit on you and fight you and
don’t want to help you in anyway shape-or-form.
Widescreen 2.39:1
Runtime 174 Min.
English 7.1 DTS-HD Master.

2.0 out of 5 stars Probably the slowest movie ever made... would not recommend.
Reviewed in Canada on 16 November 2020

This is the slowest movie ever. I was really excited to watch this, but I was thoroughly disappointed. The movie had almost no dialogue, and I had no idea what was going on for most of the time. The 3 hours that it took to watch this movie felt like 3 lifetimes. By the time you get to the end of the movie, you are almost rooting for the main character to get killed so that the movie can end and you can get on with life. This could have been an amazing movie; the filing was adequate, and the basic storyline could have made an amazing movie. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone... even if I got it for free, let alone almost $30.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful film about a beautiful action that realistically portrays human anguish.
Reviewed in Canada on 25 December 2021

The movie is a visually beautiful, and its portrayal of the protagonists family and setting is bucolic without seeming over sentimentalized. Once the tragic moment happens where the protagonist discovers he cannot pledge allegiance to Hitler the path is set, and the portray of his questions and his suffering seems to make more sense than many movies I have seen lately.

1.0 out of 5 stars Español latino
Reviewed in Spain on 27 December 2020
