5.0 out of 5 starsIt’s all about stability.
Reviewed in Australia on 8 May 2021
Let’s get the negatives out of the way first. This isn’t the router for you if raw performance is what you’re after. Download speeds top around the 750mbps region running gigabit fibre (on both my devices). That’s about 50-100mbps less than it’s competition, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing (I’ll get back to this in a sec). Understandably gigabit speeds isn’t a luxury everyone can have, so ping speeds perhaps would be worth looking at. But once again, nothing much to write home about. Running terminal on an M1 mac saw speeds of about 4-6ms. Interestingly however, I saw similar ping speeds with the 2nd gen eero cupcakes while downloads where in the 600mbps ballpark (500mbps on my iPhone 12)

But these aren’t even negatives to everyone’s eye. Here are the positives then. Set up process is second to none. These top the google wifi systems for having a killer intuitive (and polished-ly good looking) app. But eero’s strongpoint is in its motto - stability. These systems sacrifice that small bit of performance for the pursuit of stability and it delivers. I didn’t face any downtime, slowdowns or anomalies that made me felt like it needed a restart. That’s a departure from my first taste in wifi 6 with tp-link’s Deco X60. That had even better performance but had poor band steering and fast roaming (the bit that switches which wifi point you’re connected to). Then one of its puck got stuck into a boot loop and is now serving as paperweight (even the physical reset button does nothing). This experience is why I value stability / reliability so much because in the end of the day what we want is something that just works!

Final thoughts, If you’ve gotten the eero cupcakes, don’t be tempted. They have about 90% of what’s offered anyway. Otherwise, if you’re fed up with the stability of your current set up I doubt these will disappoint.

(I hope you’ll enjoy them :))

Things to note:
- Speedtests are by no means technical.
- Optimised for video conference and gaming (SQM) turned on didn’t show any noticeable difference. I kept it on for the event where friends are over and decide to hog my upload speeds (only 50mbps lol)
- It’s worth pointing out that the wifi 6 eeros are having some bad rep with really poor performance. Fortunately I’m not experiencing anything I’ve read so far (hence why I felt the need to shed light of the other direction)

2.0 out of 5 starsThere's something intuitively wrong.
Reviewed in Australia on 25 January 2022
1. The built quality is good because of the high price. 2. The initial instalment process was painful and I had to call customer service to help me to do it. 3. Both router and the extenders are extremely hot because they DON'T have any ventilation or holes on the body! I would recommend some other mesh wifi out there. I have been a big fan of Amazon for a while and since Eero is an amazon company, I had high expectations and this time it let me down. Overall, I believe there is a design flaw. Jeff Bezos, if you can read this, please contact me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this FTTC (NBN) and PPPoE peeps
Reviewed in Australia on 8 February 2022
Configuration: 1 Router + 2 ExtendersVerified Purchase
If you're like me and have FTTC on the (Australian) NBN and your provider is someone like Exetel who use PPPoE (look in your existing modem login settings), then read on!

I was having many an issue getting my Eero set up and wanted to have it plugged directly into the FTTC modem supplied by the NBN, as opposed to "bridge mode" (ie the Eero plugged into your existing router). Who wants THREE ugly boxes on their kitchen bench?!

The Eero 6 and 6 Pro DO now have PPPoE support - ie this means the Eero 6 can be your primary wifi router AND you can plug it directly into your FTTC NBN Connection Box (let's go with "modem"). However, the Eero 6 in most cases, aren't shipping without this latest PPPoE firmware so won't work out of the box (as of February 2022).

To update the firmware, first you need to connect your Eero to your existing router and follow the steps in the Eero app to set up your new Eero network. This is painless and takes seconds. This is known as "bridge mode" which does work, it just means you have three boxes plugged in together which isn't visually appealing.

Now with your new Eero network established and with your Eero still plugged into to your router (ie still in bridge mode), update your Eero to the latest firmware (critical to get the PPPoE functionality) using the Eero app.

Once the firmware has been updated to at least 6.6.1, still using your Eero app, go into Settings, Network settings, ISP settings and change WAN type to PPPoE (leave Upling VLAN Tag unchecked). Select PPPoE and enter the username and password you use to access your ISP's internet (these same credentials will also be in your existing modem/router). Or, call your ISP and write them down.

Once you've entered these details, hit Save settings and you can then unplug your Eero from your old router and plug it directly into the NBN modem.

Note that the Eero may need a soft reboot (the button on the underside of the unit). Hold this for 7 seconds and it should boot back up, with the lights cycling from flashing white, to blue and then back to a solid white.

You're all set! And you can now go about setting up the extra Eero units around your house.

Where I went wrong, is that the Eero app does let you enter PPPoE details upon initial set up but for me, it wouldn't accept/save my username/pwd which I knew to be correct. It wasn't until I successfully set the network up in bridge mode and THEN entered my PPPoE settings would it accept my username/pwd.

I achieved this with the patient help of an Eero tech support officer so hopefully it helps others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good, solid product
Reviewed in Australia on 7 July 2021
Configuration: eero 6 RouterVerified Purchase
Purchased this product as the number of wifi connected products in my home was getting increasingly larger, mainly due to a growing number of smart products, and I was concerned about possible wifi congestion issues. I have found the router to be very stable and the setup was quite straight forward. I have noticed that the wifi signal strength in the rooms furthest from the router (~13m) has improved since using the single router.

I did have some issues getting 2.4GHz wifi devices (e.g. smart light bulbs, etc.) connected as the router only provides a single wifi hotspot rather than split 2.4 and 5GHz connections. Eventually I discovered that you could temporarily disable 5GHz on the hotspot so that one can connect 2.4GHz only devices. You can do this by going to the connection problems section of the troubleshooting part of the eero phone app. Once I discovered how to do this setting up those devices was a breeze.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable, secure and easy to setup wifi 6 mesh

Pure wifi bliss.
Not only are my wifi issues fixed, its done in an elegant looking device.
Easy to manage setup using your phone. Fast route processing and reliable wifi 6 coverage.

Plus there support is awesome compared to other device after sales support out there.
I've recommended it to my entire family who swapped over to using eero as well.
They, too, noticed the difference despite not being tech savy people. Says alot about the design and intended audience of the product!

Not to mention buying it from a reliable site like Amazon, you get all the benefits and security of online purchasing.
Also help that I managed to score this with a sweet deal as an Amazon Prime member!

You can also get the matching mount's for these (not eero supplied) so they look nice and flushed on your points without all the dangling /unsightly cables everywhere.

These things are so good. They just work. All the time. I used to have a whole complicated ubiquiti setup, and it was always playing up and had too many settings to adjust. These eero things provide full speed wifi all over the house and just never die or glitch or anything. All the settings you need, none that you don’t. Perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up and works really well
Reviewed in Australia on 19 July 2021
Configuration: 1 Router + 2 ExtendersVerified Purchase
When I unpacked and start to set up I had trouble connecting to my ISP. On the primary base station there is a soft reset button underneath, pushed that and waited for the light to go red, it rebooted and then presto it worked!
Easy set up, follow the set up guide in the app, you put each wifi point out and turn it on the app finds it and tests the signal strength. The advanced eero package you can trial for a month with add blockers and threat identification is pretty good. Costs about $3 a month after that.
All in all very happy with it, works well, the kids devices are all set up under their own profile so easier to manage, you can turn on band steering as well which works well.
Excellent product and worth the investment, I had an old model supplied by my ISP it wasn't great, this one is brilliant.

So easy to install.
I have noticed a better wi-fi coverage and reliability over my previous router.
The Eero app is also well designed and the addition of eero secure adds peace of mind.
Great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply perfect
Reviewed in Australia on 7 November 2021

After struggling with dlink powerline adapters for years, I upgraded to eero upon a recommendation and its the best. Very clear strong signal, easy to setup with a bluetooth connected app (so you can still access it even if struggling to setup wifi) and it pairs and finds the extenders easily. The eero app is great for monitoring all connected devices and their usage. The only thing that was disappointing was the 30% off sale that occurred 2 days after I bought it!
Also a useful tip, the basic package only has 1 of 3 stations supporting a wired connect connection (to connect to your modem). The other stations are wifi only, so you need to purchase an additional wired connecter if linking up devices for wired that are not close to the router.
