Way too pedestrian!
Reviewed in Australia on 22 February 2021
I had hoped to be wowed by one of Australia's popular authors - but I wasn't. Sure, I finished the book, it's an easy read so why not? But the plot line was obvious from the third page in. Whilst many female fiction romances are obvious from the start, I had even guessed what would happen to the kids by the end of the first chapter.
The dialogue is plain - and quite frankly boring. The first half of the book is devoted to the wife living in denial that her marriage has broken down - it reads very slowly and, as a Kindle reader, I kept checking how much of the book I had finished just to work out when the plot might get more interesting. The second half moves much faster, and the dialogue gets more 'sassy' and interesting. I understand that this is probably what the author wanted us to feel - it goes with the shift in the main character's outlook - but it really was too pedestrian at first.
