5.0 out of 5 starswow !

I’ve enjoyed other books by Sally Hepworth but for some reason resisted reading this one as soon as it was published . I’m glad that changed ! This book is a mix between The Rosie Project , Eleanor Oliphont and Gone Girl and I loved every page of it!

Fern and Rose are fraternal twins . Fern is nuero diverse and tells the story in the present . Rose is unable to have a child of her own when Fern realises this a chain of events occurs and the story unfolds . We hear Rose’s story in retrospective in journal form .

It is a really great book by a wonderful Australian author . Highly recommend !

2.0 out of 5 starsAn airport read at best

Predictable plot. The so called twist was obvious. The characters seemed quite one dimensional. I was that bored I skipped over a fair amount of pages in the middle. Very tempted to bin it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Good Sister was such a good book that it ruined my week.

I started to read, The Good Sister on a Sunday. On that day, I was supposed to do the weekly shop, meal prep and generally get ready for the hectic week ahead. Oops, that didn't happen, I was too busy reading.

I loved the characters so much that I couldn't put the book down, they intrigued me, I couldn't stop, I had to go on.

Knowing this, the author really should offer meal solutions along with her book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Original and insightful novel about the complexities of sibling relationships

A very original and clever story about the complex and contradictory relationship between two sisters, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. The novel skilfully demonstrates how positive qualities such as concern, care and support can also have their darker side resulting in a relationship that is controlling, manipulative and self-serving. All the characters were beautifully drawn, engaging and believable and I had my fingers crossed for Fern, the sister with autism, hoping all would end well.

I loved this book and found myself totally engaged and fascinated. The characters were so well developed and credible, and the plot perfectly constructed I had to stay up until 3am to finish. (I also loved the Bayside Library and want to go there...)

Loved this book from the beginning. Sally Hepworth writes a wonderful story that twists and turns and has unexpected outcomes. Rose is a character that you first admire and then pity, while Fern grows and finds her true abilities and strengths. Perhaps if we were all a little less neurotypical and a little more neurodiverse the world may be a better place.

One of the best books I’ve read this year. Love Sally Hepworth, and somehow she keeps outdoing herself. I love the character of Fern, who is a bit Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine crossed with The Rosie Project, but even more loveable. This is a gripping family drama that had me up way too late because I couldn’t put it down.

I'm a slow reader and get so easily distracted and bored but I finished this book in four days and stayed up until 1am to finish it. The character development was amazing and the plot! *chefs kiss* The last few chapters gave me goose bumps and the twist had me scanning the pages in shock! Have already downloaded another book from Sally. Off to start it now!
