4.0 out of 5 starsEnhances usability and comfort at substantial cost
Reviewed in Australia on 8 February 2021
Improves the comfort of the Quest 2 by balancing it out. Sits much better on your noggin and is far easier to adjust and get on and off. The added battery life is great and also helps this balancing act.

This is the fit that you should ideally get out of the box with the Quest 2. It is an expensive addition but unfortunately I find it necessary. It just shouldn't cost this much.

The case is ok. The zipper tie is a joke and I can see it breaking off, making it extremely difficult to open/close the recessed zip. Case is nice and sturdy and the controllers fit in well too.

I also feel that fitting the Quest 2 in the case with the glasses spacer attached makes it too tight on the facial interface material where it rubs up against the plastic partition for the controllers. This means I don't use the case for day to day storage but would use it for travel.

Shipping time on this was abysmal.

1.0 out of 5 starsBroke during proper use. Do not buy outside the US

It appears that this product is known to break during use. The arms of the head strap appears to crack and break. I contacted Oculus support and they told me they couldn't replace it because it is not available in my region. So I am sending it back to Amazon Australia for a full refund. Do not buy first party oculus accessories through amazon.

The elite headstrap adds so much more comfort for longer play sessions, and battery makes it so much easier to not always be worrying about the amount of battery left, or if I forget to charge it, chances are it still has a bit of life left. The case is perfect, just remember to use the adjustment wheel at the back of the headstrap to make it short enough to fit in the case before zipping it up. Hoping it lasts, as the zip feels like it may eventually get jammed, and since it is hidden in the case, if it got stuck, it would be very hard to fix. Would have given it 5 stars if not for the price. Crazy that each of these things individually are $79 each. The case, while very nicely designed, should not have such a high price tag. It's just plastic coated with some wool fibers.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'd call it essential

The secondary battery strap and carry case are really five star. I'd recommend both as essential components of the kit.
Only minus 1 star as this should really be the stock kit (the current stock strap is rubbish and the kit needs a case for storage and protection. Even with the increase in cost this should really be the minimum inclusion for the oculus 2.

Coming off of an original Rift CV1 and a Rift S I knew I'd need to get the Elite Strap due to the somewhat flimsy strap included with the Quest 2... I'm used to more support vs less support. When I saw that they were including a version of the Elite Strap with an added battery and a pretty nice looking case, the choice was made for me!

Straight up this battery strap is a very good thing, it extends the internal battery life of your Quest 2 by about 2-3 hours depending on what you're doing (obviously games eat up more power than watching a movie)... at the end of the day you get on average about 4-6 hours of total battery life, which is very useful. Compared to the included Quest 2 material strap, the battery on the back and the extra weight of the plastic helps balance out the weight of the Quest 2 itself making things feel more stable and generally more comfy. Also the adjustment knob at the back of the Elite Strap lets you get a good seal on your face. There is a USB C cable which travels from the battery pack and connects to the USB C port on the Quest 2... for charging both batteries there is a USB C port on the bottom of the battery pack (below the adjustment knob thing). Unfortunately this second USB C port does not allow for pass-through for Link (connecting the Quest 2 to a gaming PC)... you need to unplug the battery cable and let it hang to the side to use link with the main USB C port. This isn't really an issue as the Link hookup itself should keep you charged (if you have a quality cable, like the official Oculus Link cable), but the positioning of the back downward facing USB C port would make for a more logical spot for tethering (vs the front right hand side). Either way it's fine, just a bit of a missed opportunity imho.

The case itself is also quite nice, it's a dense zip up clam shell/pod type thing and is covered by a very wooly feeling felt type material... there is also a faux soft leathery strap to carry it with. It's quite nice and does exactly what it's supposed to. Only downside is the lack of (re-pluggable) holes for charging the Quest 2 in the case itself, it needs to be resting halfway out of the case, and even upside down if you have the Elite Battery Strap attached. Also the hidden zipper has stuck a few times when trying to open it for me, but I have managed to work that out. It can get stuck on the USB C cable which connects the battery pack to the headset, you can avoid this by making sure you push it down in the case before zipping it up. Overall a nice hard shell case, especially if you plan on taking it places!

At the end of the day, I do think the comfort and extra battery life is worth it and the case is well made, and very cool looking... I'm only removing a star for the minor issues listed above... ie: The lack of a convenient USB C pass-through in the battery pack for Oculus Link and the lack of a charge port, or ports really, along with a possible fussy zipper in the carrying case. Buy it for the comfort factor, the double the battery life factor and the cool case to store it in factor and you're golden! :)

Update 1 Oct 22 2020: having used this for a good solid week now I wanted to mention that I have noticed a bit of stress on the back of my head after long sessions if I've tightened the Elite Strap too much. I'm used to clamping down the halo strap on the Rift S, which maybe is not the best path to take with this Elite Strap (functionally similar but different, the Rift S halo tightens around your entire head, while this elite strap simply pulls and holds the visor tighter to your face), I've found that keeping it a little looser has been better... otherwise I still think this is the way to go!

Update 2 Nov 19 2020: Wanted to point out one annoyance which has come up, if you leave the fully charged battery pack plugged into the headset and turn the headset off for a couple days (not on standby, actually turn it off), when you come back the battery pack will have zero charge. Why? Who knows, but it kind of sucks. The only solution I've found is to disconnect the USB C cable from the Quest 2 when you turn it off... the battery pack will still have a full charge the next time you plug it in.

Update 3 Oct 2021 - One year later and this battery strap is still going strong, no breaks in the plastic, and no issues beyond what was mentioned above!

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of the strap itself not Amazon’s lack of delivery on pre order.

Was disappointed with the quest 2, compared to the quest 1 it’s just uncomfortable and making it narrower just made things worse for me. The interface is not as good and the normal strap doesn’t help at all. After half an hour my face would hurt. A couple of hours with this and it’s like night and day, I can now use my quest 2 without it killing my face. It’s not perfect, and I wish the material of the interface was more like the quest 1 (I’ve tried vrcover and didn’t like them) but with this strap and battery combo it’s a lot better. It’s a shame I had to spend the money to get it like this though.

The actual strap is really comfortable and the extended battery life is really useful, however be aware that if you have the extended battery you CANNOT use a data link cable through it. So if you want to connect to your PC, your extended battery pack will be disconnected. Likewise, I haven't found a charging dock which works with the elite strap and controllers. Shame that Oculus didn't think of the data cable issue beforehand because the product would have been a perfect addon otherwise.

Really like the case, strap and battery. The strap is FAR more comfortable than the default one that the Quest 2 comes with.

Only slight annoyances are the lack of any secure way to store the controllers inside the case, they go into the middle where they could fairly easily shift around and the fact that the power cable connects to the strap being at the back, meaning many of the nicer docks for the Quest 2 don't work with the Elite strap.

Minor annoyances though, the bundle is otherwise great.

** These straps are really unreliable and tend to snap or crack. This hasn't happened to me (yet) and I bought the strap knowing about the issues as this is the only elegant solution for extending the Quests 2 battery life. **

I bought this mostly for the extended battery life. While it has a bad reputation, I didn't find the original Quest 2 strap all that bad. It is pretty bad at first but once I'd got it fitted and adjusted just right it was fine.

I haven't timed it but it seems to more than double the Quest 2s battery life. I can play for hours and the Quest 2 will still be on 100% (the battery life indicator in the Quest 2 OS gives you separate %s for the Quest 2 and Extended Battery which is nice). Previously I could play for maybe a couple of hours before having to charge. I think you could go for 6 hours with this (if you really wanted to..).

I wasn't expecting too much comfort-wise but it's a huge upgrade here too. Like I said, I didn't mind the default strap, but this is way better. It's quite a bit heavier than the standard strap but the weight and pressure is distributed a lot better so it ends up feeling a lot better to wear. I much prefer the Quest 2 over the Rift S or PSVR now.

There's two things I don't like about this set:

The price is a bit much. It's probably..definitely worth it to *me* in terms of the use I'll get out of it but is this a £120 product? Nope, and it's not even close when you consider that these things crack and snap a lot.

The case. It's fine. It's a small, tidy case and feels quite solid but the outside is this very light faux suede type material that you just know is going to look grubby in a few months and be very hard to clean. The zip has a bit of thin string instead of a metal or plastic pull which I imagine is going to snap at some point.

I do recommend this but please for the love of God don't buy one from eBay or wherever. If you're going to buy one get it from Amazon or somewhere else with good customer service in case it does snap.

the battery life is just ok, the new head strap is a little uncomfortable, and it's hard to easily and safely store the VR headset.

Those problems are all solved with a single Oculus accessory that, while expensive, is pretty fantastic. I've been trying the Oculus Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery for a week, and it's changed my feelings on the Quest 2. It's an accessory that, while bulky, is seriously excellent for any longer-term VR user looking to spend a lot of time gaming.
