Worth a watch

This movie has a typical Australian cinematic feel - set un rural Australia, it features quintessential working-class blokes who think a village member who left to go to the city to work is a sell-out. It features the detrimental effects that a mob mentality can have when mob judgements of others are based on personal bias. It was very enjoyable but like everything Australian made - it's all from the male perspective - men feature front and centre. The women in it are perceived as victims, as suspicious or as something to be desired.

Very disappointing. Over-written metaphors and a lack of understanding of rural communities - the author insists on fields and barns instead of sheds and paddocks. There’s no school bus. Then, the perpetrator of the murders is very easily guessed. I’m usually hopeless at guessing the perpetrator but I picked this one easily. The film is marginally better despite Julia Blake’s lack of an Australian accent and some very confused geography. I expected so much more of Jane Harper.

It's not often that a great film comes out of Australia and this too isn't one of them. Slow moving and not much interesting scenery. Unenjoyable.

This film was unwatchable for us due to the extreme levels of blasphemy, even beyond the usual course language. The violence comes with a warning, but the blasphemy does not. That made it unwatchable for us and we couldn't finish the film. A waste of money.
