In the first few chapters of this book the main character’s parents are divorced and the boy goes back and forth. He has to change schools. A girl befriends him……and HER parents split up too. Don’t give this book to any impressionable youngster. Despite later resolutions to problems I think it needs older readers rather than young ones.
We were lucky enough to go to the Family event at Alexandra Palace last night, with JK Rowling and Jim Fields (illustrator) talking about the book. I finished the book last night. I couldn't put it down and enjoyed finding out how Jo got the inspiration for the book. Will be buying more copies as xmas presents In short, its about the bond a child can have with a soft toy and also… something about how “the chosen one” isn’t necessarily the hero (she’d already written 7 books about that after all)
Jo is fantastic at creating other worlds and the story just flows
My 9 year old son hasn't been able to put this down, we caught him reading by torchlight, reading before school, reading whilst eating etc. He's loved everything JKR has written for children - and this is, in his opinion, the best book he's ever read. Thank you JKR for sharing your gift in a way that draws children into reading, you really are a truly inspirational woman who is flying the flag for other female authors.
I think Rowling “peaked” with Harry Potter. I bought this book in hopes of gifting it to my granddaughter but the first few chapters were about a young boy in a broken marriage and his mother hooks up with another divorced man with a teenage rebellious daughter. Don’t feel this is an appropriate book for a child.
Loved the writing and descriptions Brilliant characters that you care about Happy scary Christmas action adventure Perfect to read with children to talk about all kinds off emotions JK Rowling always managed to write children's books that adults can relate to and enjoy Great for Christmas and all year round
