4.0 out of 5 starsNot a favourite but still a pleasant read that I stayed up late to finish.

Not a favourite but still a pleasant read that I stayed up late to finish.
Things hit close to home for Eve in this one. A body is left in the playground near where Mavis and her family, and Peabody and McNab are renovating their new home. It also brings up Mommy issues for Eve and I was glad to see she dealt with them extremely well. Eve even had a bit of payback to her own self as a child, which I found adorable.
I loved catching up with a host of characters that I really adore and seeing the progress on how their lives are moving forward. Having Jamie being a part of this was also fun. There is also a couple of characters that show a different side to themselves.
The interactions between everyone were as usual a pleasure.
But the story itself, though sad that two women lost their chance at a future, held little tension or edge of the seat excitement. I would have to say it pretty much coasted along with hardly a ripple for me.
The killer was a good twist and I will say I for once felt sorry for what happened to cause his snap.
But the biological mother’s viewpoint that we are given, by going back in time, just made me dislike her and find her a coward. If she had been a decent person, she would have not hidden with the doctor but tried to find out who she was, rather than have six decades of a happy life.
To then do what she did out of guilt was the trigger for the killer.

1.0 out of 5 starsVery disappointing
Reviewed in Australia on 19 March 2022
I got 3 chapters in and stopped reading.

Where is the cagey, edgy tone and the almost abrupt style of writing? I actually believe that this has been written by a ghost writer - either that or Ms Roberts has run out of steam. I have read every Nora Roberts & JD Robb books and her most recent works just seem to have lost the spark.

I’m really disappointed and feel more than a bit let down.

Interestingly, the reviews on the US amazon website, for the most part, tend to agree with me.

Ive read every single book in this series, usually enjoy to the max. This one seemed shorter, more quickly written with less depth of plot.
I still enjoyed it a lot ,because i know and love the characters.Must be hard to write over 50 books on the same people, very clever.

4.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling ride!
Reviewed in Australia on 6 July 2022
Abandoned in Death is book 54 in the ‘In Death’ series by J.D. Robb, can you believe it! A woman is found on a bench in a playground , neatly arranged and with a note “Bad Mommy’. This brings in Eve and her team to try and figure out what the killer is trying to say and if he will kill again! Of course, the case isn’t as cut and dry and you would think and Eve is thrown into the chase of trying to find a killer before he kills again!

This was another great addition to this series. Of course, all of the usual characters are there: Roarke, Feeney and Peabody to name but a few as they all have their roles to find the killer whilst trying to balance their social lives. I definitely think Eve doesn’t have as many rough edges as she did in previous books, this is certainly due to her finding Roarke and her ‘family’ who put up with Eve just being her hard-headed but loving self.

The story is full of suspense as we try to figure out who the killer is and has some good twist and turns as well as some good family moments (Peabody & Mavis) Overall, this was another enjoyable read in a great series!

JD Robb is getting her spark back, I’ve read the whole series of these books, some have been very hit and miss. this is a better one. She still needs to up the anti and write a really good thriller with this cast of characters. Bring back the thrill of the earlier books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as always but

Have read every single book in this series, loved everyone of them but found the last few books is just about the crime?! None off her friends lives involved with here, non of her outings with hubby, makeup hates with Trina, it misses the personal source of Eve's life which must makes it a normal crime book. Not a STRong crime book

I used to love this series but sadly as time goes by the quality of the story telling and plot line has got weaker and weaker. Has Robb lost her capacity to write good books? Are the books being ghost written? I don't know, but there is just not that punch any more.

I will never not read a book in this series.
Although the stories are always great, my favourite parts are the interactions between the characters, Dallas and Peabody\Eve and Roarke especially.
