5.0 out of 5 starsVery Interesting Read

I loved the book, at first I thought it was a bit dragged out and nearly gave up BUT … so glad I finished it! What a ride with so many twist & turns, and I couldn't guess who was lying and who is telling the truth. And I never guested the ending.
I recommend this book and looking forward to reading another by Kathryn Croft

2.0 out of 5 starsRarely do I give such a low rating…*Spoilers*
Reviewed in Australia on 9 February 2022
I have read so much crime and mystery fiction from so many different authors. Usually there is a redeeming feature.

But this felt like an 8 hour long stage and lay with three scenes: Sienna’s house, Abby’s house or outside.

The writing is good but apart from that, it is far-fetched, gruellingly slow, unoriginal, unexciting and just a bit of a yawn fest.

-How did ‘they’ find Greg’s body and who found it?
-How did Holly cover up the crime?
-What was even the point of the spouse swap?
-Why did Greg insist he killed Leela ‘deliberately’ when he was guilty of leaving Leela but not of directly killing her?
-Why is no one particularly sad about Greg and why is Abby totally OK with Rib living at Sienna’s?

I hope you enjoyed this more than I did!

I nearly didn’t finish this book because it seemed to be going nowhere.
I did read to the surprising end.
Not a bad read but a little drawn out

5.0 out of 5 stars Very English…. Twisty, impressive, gripping…
Reviewed in Australia on 29 October 2021
I have just discovered audiobooks. Hence I listened to ‘The Other Husband’ by Kathryn Croft and enjoyed it.

First off, it was Excellent narration… however it felt like a Very long 11 hours…
The book simmers with a lot of angst and at times I wanted to yell - ‘just spill it’ ! ‘Just get on with it’….
I guess without a doubt it is Very English.

Abby and Rob have just moved to London and have become couple friends with Sienna and Greg. After more than a few drinks one night at a dinner party the idea of “wife swap” is joked about & unfortunately, put out in the universe. Strictly platonic, of course…

After the swap Greg disappears. Sienna knows he must have slept with Abby. Abby does have a secret. Did Greg leave out of guilt? Did something sinister happen to him? Was Sienna jealous enough to do something to Greg? Is Abby's secret reason for foul play? How much does Rob know? So many questions and I haven't even included the supporting cast of characters and there are many of them.

Like any twisty psychological thriller there is not too much I can reveal without spoilers. As each new character showed up I was sure they were the key to what was going on.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wicked twisty read
Reviewed in Australia on 14 October 2021
“One dinner party…One fatal mistake…”

The intriguing premise had me drawn to this book like a moth to a flame, rubbing my hands together with glee for what I hoped was going to be a very wicked read. How could it not be when best friends Sienna and Abby innocently swap husbands for a night to see how the other lives. I mean what could possibly go wrong with that…

This is a very twisty and thrilling ride and it had me hanging off its every word. What was meant to be a night of fun, opens up one big massive can of worms and has dire consequences for all. Buried secret’s rise to the surface and it is a great lesson on how appearances can be deceiving and how the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Kathryn Croft is a new author to me and The Other Husband has been a great introduction to her work and I am happy to say I was given exactly what I hoped for. This is one very wicked read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected double meaning twists
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
Two couples; Abby and Rob, and Sienna and Greg, have become the best of friends. One night they sit down and unbeknownst to them its their last dinner together. The friends agree to swap the husbands for the night as an experiment but a few days later one of the husbands; Greg, unexpectedly goes missing. Is his disappearance linked to his marriage or was it related to spending the night with Abby?

I'm going to keep my review very short only because this is one book where you can't say too many things.

I was rather fond of Abby and Rob, they seemed down to earth, and the type of people you would want to invite over for dinner and drinks. Whereas Sienna and Greg, for me I felt they were superficial, not themselves. I felt I couldn't trust them as far as I could throw them.

And, wow I didn't see the plot twists coming in this story. I was even wrong with what I thought had happened. Don't you just love when authors write in a way where the meaning could mean different things. After years of reading thrillers, you would think I would get used to it now.

Thank you Netgalley and Canelo for the gifting of The Other Husband for me read and review this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Drawn out, never ending
Reviewed in Australia on 5 January 2022
While it started well and captured my interest, the story did not really develop into anything of substance. There were lots of words but not a lot was being said. While the intention may have been to draw the reader/listener in, for me it became tedious and frustrating. Not an enjoyable read for me. I skipped several chapters and did not miss anything of importance due to the repetition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a credible start.

Based on a daft, pointless idea of swapping spouses for the night, where each couple just sit and talk in their respective houses. A more awkward and unentertaining situation I couldn't imagine, especially as the wives barely knew each others husband.
Although the silly premise put me off I carried on reading, but it was like wading through treacle, mainly because there were so many layers of secrets that I couldn't figure out the plot or where it was heading to.
Also, nearly every chapter ended with words like; 'so she knew just what to do', and then in the next chapter the character does exactly nothing except have fruitless conversations that lead nowhere.
I got to about 70% then gave up. It was not an enjoyable reading experience.

Why I persevered with this book I don’t know. The story didn’t excite me. I found it when on far to long and the ending was lame.
