5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 - good read

This one is a tough one to write a review.
3.5 stars - the world building is good, the character arcs are good too. I have the other two books in the series and will definitely read.
The smut is great! I just feel like the story got a little confusing for “why’s”. I needed my details as to Why is the world the way it is, why does the curse effect, etc etc.
But it was still enjoyable and I am interested to see what happens in the next two.

3.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book, but....

I liked this book, I enjoyed the different take on beauty and the beast. Some of the characters were quite comical, I enjoyed the banter between them. The main characters are likeable. There's a lot of really random sex scenes, some of them almost come out of no where and it really didn't seem like the time or place but it didn't bother me, if its not your thing then maybe give this book a miss because there's a lot of it.

I didn't enjoy the writing, it made it very difficult to follow the story sometimes, it was difficult to get who was talking at times too. Things would happen and I'd have to go back and see if I'd missed something because it didn't flow and make sense and I hadn't missed anything, it just went to this dramatic event.

I will read the next few books just because I want to know what happens and the story has potential.

3.0 out of 5 stars The jury is out...

Okay so this is a hard review to write. I love recrafted fairy tales and I iked the story and the various characters but the sudden sex scenes just felt gratuitous and unnecessary. Now I am all for a bit of spice when crafted and weaved into the story but these felt just dumped in when it suited. He's having a bath so let's give him a hand...

They didn't really add to the book, in fact I found them boring and predictable and mostly rolled my eyes. The writing quite simplistic.

Having said that I will read the next one as I was intrigued by the story and where it goes next and hopefully be better and wont be pu!ling out early.

I could swear the author has hit a dry patch and is suffering incessantly lurid dreams. Perhaps this series is a kind of therapy where writing it all down makes it go away...till tomorrow. Thank god for KU, and I can skim past all those therapeutic bits.

I’m not sure what to make if this overall tbh. Classic beauty and the beast premise with some interesting and imaginative angles. Not a wow book as there weren’t really any unexpected twists but I think that KF Breene usually brings characters to life well, though hit and miss through the different series. The thing that really jarred for me throughout was the sex scenes, I find them to be clunky and a bit misplaced - there’s no development or finesse aligned to character growth or story arc, they just kind of smack you in the face without really adding anything to the narrative, the characters or progression - if anything after a while i found it irritating and distracting and would have preferred and r rated version that didn’t go there at all but focussed on the storyline. Don’t get me wrong i like a bit of escapist sizzle, but this felt very clumsy and there for the sake of it. Not sure I’ll bother with next in series if it’s more of the same which is a shame as there are good bones to this series. Made me wonder who’s editing or whether we are just down to formula

Enjoyably ridiculous. Definitely a guilty pleasure. If the ridiculous sex orgy stuff weren’t there it would’ve been perfect. On to the next one

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
Reviewed in Spain on 15 January 2022

It was not definitely what I expected reading before hand the synopsis of the book. I kind of expected some kind of copy paste of ACOTAR but only the premise was alike.

The characters need more development as I felt them too superficial and simple focused only in one main thing which tends to be the main plot of the book too, sexual attraction, making it look to me more like an erotica book instead of phantasm as I was expecting.

It has in my opinion far too many sexual scenes and not plot development at all. Also language is quite simple and easy reading plagued with many cursing words, which I dont mind but found quite excessive.

Either way I think I will give a chance to second book to see if the author focus more on the story of the curse and develope more her characters.
