5.0 out of 5 starsCompelling, a little naughty and a great story
Reviewed in Australia on 8 October 2021
Totally spoiler free but OMG what an ending. I kind of hate myself for reading it the day it came out as now I have to wait until November! 😬😭

KF Brenne books are always hilarious and I really enjoy her unique characters. This book was no different, although it did have some surprising sexual situations! Finley was a strong character who didn't take rubbish from anyone, and Nyfain-the-sometimes-jerk was compelling. I loved Finleys' connection with her family and how they drove her to try and help the Kingdom.

If you haven't tried K F Breene you are missing out.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat story but left me conflicted
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
I really liked the storyline in this take on Beauty and the Beast, but I am conflicted. I am all for the broody hero, though we find he is more layered as the story continues. Our heroine is tough without being invulnerable and I am curious to learn more about her repressed animal, though I have my suspicions.
I'm not generally a prude but the graphic, in-your-face language and scenarios, particularly the Hadriel character, seemed overly aggressive and killed the romance element for me at times. The regular use of the c bomb is a huge turn off for me and the sudden urge the characters seemed to have to talk dirty in the middle of other issues was a bit jolting.
With that said, if you can look past the list interludes, there was action, adventure and world building that make me want to search up the second installment to see what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars A spicy retelling of Beauty and the Beast!
Reviewed in Australia on 28 November 2021

This is the start of a deliciously new dark fantasy series penned by author KFB, with a great storyline and loads of heat!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Our heroine is Finley Mosgrove, a strong and highly intelligent healer, who lives in a small village that borders an enchanted forest. Desperate to save her dying father from the devastating dying sickness that has hit her village, she ventures into the forbidden forest to collect the leaves of the everlass plant, which she uses to brew a draft that seems to slow down the effects of the sickness, and therefore extending life of the patient; but unfortunately it is not a cure.

Guarding the forest and the everlass plants is a large ferocious dragon, who shifts into a gorgeous alpha man and the Hero of our story, Nyfain - the crowned prince of the Wyvern kingdom.

This is not your normal every day retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, but it’s pretty damn good. The storyline is intricate and interesting and completely different to any of the other retellings I’ve ever read before, and the interaction between the MCs is hot and full of sexual tension. The book ends abruptly on a cliffhanger, so I’m looking forward to continue this story with book two.

4.0 out of 5 stars I was so into it right up until the ending that wasn’t and ending.

I have to say a really prefer a book that has a solid ending, that always leaves me feeling elated and complete.
This book however had me gripped to each and every page until I came to the last one and that was it!! Not and ending just a place card until the next book and I find while I’m feeling down and deflated because I was so looking forward to a battle and then a brilliant ending that just didn’t happen but hey I’ll give the next book a go and see what it’s like because even though I’m not happy with the end of this one I’m hoping the beginning of the next will grab again as the beginning of this one did.
Finley is amazing by the way my new favourite heroine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retelling of Beauty and the Beast

This book went way too quickly!

I really enjoyed this retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
I loved the story that K.F Breene has threaded through the original tale and made it her own unique story.

It was nearly over the top with the dirty talk but I overlooked that with the comedic relief that was particularly supplied by one of the characters.

There is a strong heroine and a down trodden feeling sorry for himself yet still an alpha MC and the side characters are also pretty good.

The cliffhanger left a lot to be developed and understood, so I am looking forward to the next book.

You know what… I liked it. A beauty and the beast retelling with a bit more fae and ALOT more sex… but hey, it worked. I liked the writing style, good chemistry, a bit of levity to break up the darker themes. Not going to be raving about it, but definitely an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed the premise. The steam was good without actually going all the way. I liked the take on Beauty and the Beast and the additions that made it different. Interested to see how the next one goes. The ending was a bit lackluster tbh.

It’s extremely detailed and yet I found it slow to start and often had to take a break to stop myself from skipping ahead, it gets so good though and maybe it’s just my lack of patience but the slow beginning felt somewhat boring to me but definitely glad I stuck with it. Onto book 2 😍

I love how Breene weaves her stories and her descriptions are vivid. This book though was a bit predictable and as most have already written, its more soft porn than actual story even if you find out at the end reasons for some of it. Having said that, yes I want to know what happens next.

It wasn't overly dark. If I'd realised it was a shifter story I probably would have avoided it as I am a bit sick of that genre, but I'm glad I didn't realise as I enjoyed reading this. Heroine was sassy and smart, some quite funny bits.

This was over all a great read. There were a couple of little things that I picked up on that didn't really make sense to me and the ending brings no closure so I'd suggest making sure you have book to on hand ready to go when tou finish reading this one. Over all I really enjoyed it. Read it in less then 24 hours and that spice *chefs kiss*

Finley is a real smart mouthed charmer, brutally honest and tough as nails. Apparently she is also attractive, but this was not enhanced in any way which makes for a nice change.
