How would I describe this book? Its kind of a lot of stories combined into 1. A touch of Cinderella, RH bully shifter romance where the heroine has to pretend to be a guy while some of the guys are falling for her female self.
Honor is a maid in an Academy for shifters, where the most important guys in school are elitist royal dragon shifters, and dragons are only ever males. But then comes the day for Honor to shift for the first time, only to discover that she is a dragon as well. Immediately, Honor is forced to assume the identity of a guy who is hated by the royal dragons and become a student at the academy.
There's a lot going on in this book. There's beloved younger sisters, wicked stepmothers, evil and powerful rulers, mysterious prophecies, classism between species dangerous diseased enemies, and a secret past for our heroine (which isn't really that difficult to work out).
There are some questions raised, such as what exactly are the scourge and what are the elders truly up to.
I found this book enjoyable, if not hugely unique. In some ways it kind of reminded me of the Zodiac Academy, but ultimately it was a mix of genres and storylines I've read before. That's not to say I didn't like it, and I'm certainly keen to read book 2.
