5.0 out of 5 starsEnjoyable 1st book in a new series
Reviewed in Australia on 24 October 2021
How would I describe this book? Its kind of a lot of stories combined into 1. A touch of Cinderella, RH bully shifter romance where the heroine has to pretend to be a guy while some of the guys are falling for her female self.

Honor is a maid in an Academy for shifters, where the most important guys in school are elitist royal dragon shifters, and dragons are only ever males. But then comes the day for Honor to shift for the first time, only to discover that she is a dragon as well. Immediately, Honor is forced to assume the identity of a guy who is hated by the royal dragons and become a student at the academy.

There's a lot going on in this book. There's beloved younger sisters, wicked stepmothers, evil and powerful rulers, mysterious prophecies, classism between species dangerous diseased enemies, and a secret past for our heroine (which isn't really that difficult to work out).

There are some questions raised, such as what exactly are the scourge and what are the elders truly up to.

I found this book enjoyable, if not hugely unique. In some ways it kind of reminded me of the Zodiac Academy, but ultimately it was a mix of genres and storylines I've read before. That's not to say I didn't like it, and I'm certainly keen to read book 2.

3.0 out of 5 starsWhat a dissapointment. Spoilers.

Writing style pretty good. Gave it 3 stars for that. The promise of an awesome read and an awesome kick arse lead female character was good...aaaaand no. Promises broken. Fell flat in a HUGE way. As usual, the female turned into a usless, insipid and timid waste of space and ends up having to be rescued from torture and near death from being whipped to death by the wicked stepmother and her pathetic flunkies, despite supposedly being a terrifying dragon shifter with such amazeballs strength, BLAH BLAH BLAH what a joke. Pathetic pathetic pathetic. Wont be back for your crap 2nd book. So much better out there. Deleting and forgetting as soon as this review is submitted. What a waste of my life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read

This RH was a fun read. Never a dull moment. The characters were interesting and complex. The pace at which the guys were added to the harem was just right so I could focus on the story instead of the steamy scenes (which seems to be the case with other RH books at the moment). This is really well written. Thanks !

I hope Honor finds a way to train and fight with the dragon royals in the next books!

4.0 out of 5 stars a good story, but a little hard to read

I enjoyed reading Forbidden Honor, however I found there was a little too much dialog and not enough scene setting and descriptions. I like dialog to keep the story going, but I also got a bit confused in some scenes. It’s like it suddenly jumped from location without actually moving the reader.

I cannot tell you how much I have loved the sassiness of Honor and the dragon dynamics! Everything about this book and it’s characters are absolutely epic and I am absolutely dying for book 2.

This is a complex thrilling story, with deception and intrigue- and it ends on a cliffhanger. If it had ended better it would definitely have been 5 stars

It’s taken a lot of books to finally find this one worthy of reading. Some of the other books before this one I couldn’t even get 1/4 of the way through. It was getting annoying, and now I’m excited to follow the series.

This story is just great and I really enjoyed the way it does anda doesn't focus on RH elements. Such great escapist fantasy. Can't wait for the next one.
