At first I thought that there was something wrong with the resistance control. I expected that it would be easy to pull on the lightest resistance... I didnt expect that the heaviest resistance would barely be any different from the lightest. I had to concentrate hard to feel *any* difference whatsoever - it is there, but its minimal. I could pull the cord on this rower all day and barely raise a sweat.
It is possible to unscrew the cover of the flywheel and loosen a nut that then allows the armature with the magnets closer to the magnetic flywheel when the resistance knob is turned - that does make a considerable difference to the resistance and is well worth doing, but its still not what I'd call a hard workout like what can be achieved on a spin bike where resistance can be ratcheted up so high you can't turn the pedals.
There is some space where extra magnets can be inserted to also give a bit more theoretical difference - but mostly its about making the distance between the existing magnets and the flywheel as small as possible rather than adding more magnets.
If I had my time again, I would get a Concept 2 - yes I know that they are in a different ball park altogether, but a Concept 2 has resale value only a few hundred dollars less than new - whereas this will be virtually worthless. So cost of ownership is similar.
Very good value for the money. Has plenty of resistance for people starting off. Easy to assemble and very portbable. Doesnt take up much space whend folded and its easy to move around due to it being pretty light weight.
