I really felt sorry for Bess being put in a situation no one should be, but so annoyed with they way she treated Dex who is just such a patient, caring and loving man. Riley what a treasure even though the little boy has been through so much he was just precious. Of course catching up with the midwives and their families is always great, throw some drama into the mix and even 😢.

The 4th Cornish Midwife book does not disappoint. The gentle prose is easily read, you get quickly invested in the characters. I can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Book

It is a long time since I have actually cried while reading a book. The odd tear maybe but this time I had tears rolling down my face while reading about Jess and the baby she found on her doorstep. When Jess discovered she could not have children of her own it broke her marriage, but beside being a midwife she decided to become a foster carer, but before she could get started she found a new born baby on her doorstep. We follow Jess through becoming the baby's foster mother and her budding relationship with Dexter but it is not plain sailing. A brilliant book which I could not put down.

It's just a but unbelievable and Jess is incredibly pathetic. She has been vetted for fostering but probably should have been refused. Emotionally she is all over the place. She loves little Teddy which is naturally but she even thinks of running away with him. Dexter also is too good to be true. The biggest disappointment was that her friends kept on asking if she was OK. A good twist good have been she was pregnant. If you are sitting on a beach somewhere and can skip a few pages and don't want to use your brain then read this book.

I enjoyed being back with the Cornish midwives and finding more about their lives. A lot of the book is about Jess who has had a short marriage to a self centred man, namely Dom. He has treated Jess badly but she now needs to move on with her life but, of course, that is easier said than done.
I am a big fan of Jo's and have read and enjoyed all of her books. I am looking forward to reading the next 'episode' in the lives of the midwives.

I enjoyed all of the Cornish Midwife series so far. It's great that all the characters are in each book but each book concentrating on a different persons life story.
How I wish I was a midwife myself working in Port Agnes. This book made me cry and made me smile. It's very true to life and everywhere is described so vividly I can't wait until the next installment.

I have loved all the books in this series, but this may be my favourite so far! To tackle such emotional subjects as fostering and a young woman's longing for a child with such insight takes a very special writer such as Jo Bartlett. It is beautifully written, carefully researched, with a gripping story line, a brilliant read.

Lots of drama in this latest instalment of the Cornish midwives series.
Jess is given her first foster child but is shocked when she finds out who the baby's parents are.
Anna's twins arrive and another wedding takes place.
The St Agnes baby boom continues.
