There is a pretty good mystery here, which rounds off nicely. There are quite a few plot ingredients and many of them are unlikely though. Virtually no one is likeable either and this tends to disturb my enjoyment of novels. There are also a couple of curious moments: for instance, if you were fleeing a room after a murder, wouldn't you notice that the slain woman is not the same one you came up with? I probably would have run with 3 stars normally, but the late twists did redeem things somewhat, so I have bumped it up to 4.
