One of those books you just cant put down. Cultures knitted together in firm bonds of brotherhood. Nostalgia poking its head through every page. Clean and wholesome. Vividly brought to life through obvious lived experience of our beautiful Africa.
Samantha Ford is a great storyteller. You will be consumed, as I was, from the first page on, by an intriguing, gripping, compelling saga, full of suspense surrounding a fascinating tale which will keep you glued to every page. The story immerses you in Africa and is a riveting good read which I can thoroughly recommend to all.
As I write, with the pandemic banning flights to Southern Africa- this is the only way to visit this exciting country with its fabulous game lodges!
Having lived in Kenya for many years but now living in England I've loved reading the Africa stories from Samantha Ford. Each one takes me right back there with her wonderful descriptions and each storyline captures you from the start, with a surprise towards the end. Please let us have more, Samantha.
As with all Samantha's books, they are compelling! Real page turners that leave you wanting more. If you have any connection with Africa they are particularly poignant, but with London and New York often thrown in for good measure, - they stand alone. Don't assume that you know what's going to happen...she will always catch you off guard!
I have read all of Samantha’s books, but this one blows the previous titles all away, I was gripped from minute one of starting to read it. I love the way Samantha brings her novels together, one never knows quite what is going to happen. There is also the fact that characters from previous books reappear and bring continuity to the tale. A fantastically talented author whose missives I would recommend very highly indeed. Keep them coming Samantha!
I read this book very quickly as it was not a book you want to put down. I thorougly recommend this book to everyone, but especially to anyone who has lived in Africa. The author paints a picture with words so you can see what is happening. Excellent
I am amending my original review where I first gave this book a 1 star.... Now I am in no doubt I was wrong. As I struggled initially with the narrative of the book I soon got into the characters. Having spent a considerable amount of time traveling in South Africa and Zimbabwe I was suddenly back. What can I say?..... Not many books make me cry.... This did.
Another excellent story by Samantha Ford! What an amazing author who takes you right back to Africa, mu birthplace! Once started, I could not put the book down, I never want her stories to end but can't wait until the end! Please keep them coming Samantha! I love going back to Africa just by turning the pages!
This book transported me back to Africa and a little bit of good old Bulawayo. An excellent story and a book I would recommend especially if you know and love Africa. Very nostalgic. Gripping and catches you off guard.
