This was my first read from Melanie Harlow, I was drawn in by the cover 🥵
It follows a second generation character from Cloverleigh Farms but it can be read as a standalone. Winnie’s parents are from the first book in the series.
It was a cute contemporary romance with an age gap, single dad and grumpy/sunshine trope.
Winnie is a hopeless romantic who has sworn off men for a year after a breakup because she falls in love too fast. She moves in next door to an older and very attractive Dex, who is a fire fighting single dad of two little girls. Dex has sworn off relationships after the breakdown of his marriage and no longer believes in love.
Winnie and Dex were cute together, I did want a bit more drama (I think I read too much dark romance) but it was a nice small town romance read. I really enjoyed the scenes with Dex’s two girls they were cute!
I was so excited to go back to Cloverleigh Farms and Ignite didn’t disappoint. We meet the grumpy firefighter, Dex Matthews. He’s 34 and an ex SEAL and also a single dad of two girls…. Cue the swoon, right?
Winnie is 22 years old and has always been addicted to love. She loves the idea of it and falls in love super fast. She just had a failed engagement so she’s sworn off men and falling in love for the foreseeable future thanks to a bet with her friend.
Dex and Winnie meet when Dex moves next-door to Winnie and their attraction is instant. Although they both fight it at the start, it’s undeniable and before they know it, they can’t resist each other anymore.
This is definitely in the grumpy/sunshine category which is one of my all time fave tropes. If you’ve read the rest of the Cloverleigh books then you’ll be able to see the parallels of Ignite and book number one, Irresistible, which is the book about Winnie’s parents…. I loved this so much and I loved the way the book mentioned them with humour surrounding it.
This was a super cute read with the spice thrown in. I really liked the way Winnie and Dex came together and Dex’s girls are hilarious and Dex is such a great dad. This book is pretty love angst, which I loved. I just needed a cute small town romance book and this hit the spot.
Winnie and Dex’s chemistry was great and I loved reading their story and seeing how they found a place in each others world.
If you’re looking for a cute grumpy/sunshine romance, then this one is for you!
Grumpy/sunshine tropes aren’t really something I usually read but I decided to give it a chance, and I was actually surprised with how much I enjoyed this book.
Winnie was refreshing, she was a self proclaimed love junkie, after a few disastrous relationships she decides to swear off men for a while choosing to just focus on herself. That is until she gets an extremely hot new neighbour.
Dex is a broody ex Navy SEAL turned firefighter who moves in next door to Winnie, the last thing he wants is the girl next door getting under his skin. But that’s exactly what happens, and I was here for it. After one failed marriage Dex doesn’t believe in HEA but he’s about to get his.
I loved everything about this book and couldn’t put it down, I devoured it in one sitting and stayed up way too late to finish!
Dex is my favourite kind of hero, grumpy and not willing to admit he has feelings to anyone.
Winnie was a breath of fresh air, real sunshine heroine who is a lover of love.
I loved their relationship development, the way they said the don’t love each other at the end of every night together had me swooning. The fact Dex is this big ex Navy SEAL turned current Firefighter who sews and brushes his woman’s hair? I fell hard.
Absolutely loved Luna and Hallie so much, especially how involved they were in the story. They had me laughing a lot at the bedside commentary to their Dad.
This was my first read by Melanie Harlow and won’t be my last, I’m looking forward to Ellie’s book next!
I’m not a great fan of next generation books, but loved the Cloverleigh Farm series so wanted to give this a go. Winnie’s new neighbor is hot! He’s also a lot older, grumpy and a single dad. Winnie is on a break from men because she has a bad habit of falling in love with them. Dex’s girls take an immediate liking to Winnie and the more time Dex & Winnie spend together the stronger their attraction grows. They decide they could be good for each other short term, he doesn’t do relationships and she doesn’t want serious, so they decide to have some fun. Needless to save feelings become involved and things get complicated. Dex is a bit of a muppet and it takes a lot to get him to realise what is really important. I liked that Winnie stood up for herself. I enjoyed this story and will probably go on to read the other books in the series when they come out, I’ll just need to try and forget reading about them as children when I do.
Ignite is not my usual read, but I really did enjoy it! All the characters were great, the story flowed so well and I will definitely continue the series!
Personally, I think Winnie let herself get treated badly a few too many times and was a little too forgiving. Maybe I hold a grudge? I just think after the way Dex treated her a few times, she should’ve stood taller and given him what for!
Still, it’s a really enjoyable read with some brilliant laugh out loud moments.
