How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I love this book, it will help you manage your thoughts and deal with struggles you may have. Also great just for a different perspective, recommended by my therapist.

2.0 out of 5 starsNot an explanation of ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Theory)--instead Harris invents his own model
Reviewed in Australia on 9 May 2022
Russ Harris chose to develop his own model "to simplify" ACT, but I wanted to learn ACT. Harris' model in this book is "the choice point" model, but it's a model that to me is less precise and also it's a model that isn't used by anyone else. In "The Happiness Trap Pocketbook" Harris explains the basics of ACT using ACT language, and visually also. There is also in that book a clearer explanation of what, exactly, is "the happiness trap" (p. 39 of that book). In sum, I found The Happiness Trap Pocketbook to be more useful (for learning ACT).

3.0 out of 5 stars No quite sure of the message.

I haven't read all of the book so my opinion is a bit shallow. However I don't get what I have read. The information ties me in knots! I think that the main message is that your thoughts are only thoughts and there's ways to diffuse them. I've tried but it hasn't worked for me yet. I thought the message was going to be a turning point but it just sets a tone of confusion and more struggle. I hope when I get to the end I'll understand the value of the system. For now I found it a bit disconcerting.

It’s not a bad book, but like so many of the self help genere it’s oversubscribed rehash of old principals rehashed into a convenient model. That’s not a say it’s bad advice, but I didn’t care for the self help lingo.

I like to read books like this so I can recommend them to my clients. This won't make my top recommendations list but it has some interesting and useful ideas for an avid self-help book reader

The author basically tells a 5-6 things in 100 different ways which makes it boring. And all the ideas mentioned here are things you've read before or heard before.
It's not worth buying the book.

I've struggled with depression and anxiety and PTSD for ages and this doesn't come close to helping or solving a lot of issues. So don't have too many expectations out of this.

Had heard of the book a lot and through to try it. It did certainly talk about things that were new and innovative the time it was written. May be in the present time, I would have liked other recently written books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book. Off putting attitude

I haven’t finished the book, but despite it being a good message so far I’ve found the author’s tone somewhat off putting. I don’t need to be told how to feel about what the author is saying. Don’t tell me that you’re giving me a mind blowing paradigm shift. I can decide on my own how impactful your words are.
