To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Ti West's X has a fairly original concept (a group trying to make a 70s porno movie end up as targets in a 70s-style slasher movie), but not much else. It follows the general plot structure of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but is missing the overall sense of dread that made Chainsaw a masterpiece. It's hampered by the characters: unlike the everyday young people in Chainsaw, this movie's porn wannabes act and sound pretty darn shallow. If you've ever seen vintage Blue Underground interviews with porn stars, you know that porn stars are not interesting people; their career choice is the only interesting thing about them. The same holds true here. Everything else about the movie is overfamiliar.
